Collection: SAYAMAMIDORI
The Sayamamidori cultivar originated from Zairai seedlings which were selected from Uji (Kyoto Prefecture) and cultivated in Sayama (Saitama Prefecture). It was the first cultivar recognized and registered by the Saitama Prefectural Agricultural Tea Industry Branch in 1953. It was a very popular and commercially successful cultivar before Yabukita became the most common tea cultivar in Japan. Sayamamidori is characterized by its deep, blackish-green leaf color, as well as by the thickness of its stems and leaves.
