Okumidori is a late maturing sencha cultivar originating in the Kanaya area of Shizuoka Prefecture. It was certified in 1974 as a cross between the yabukita cultivar and Shizuoka native no. 16. It inherits the good qualities of yabukita and is characterized by its beautiful green color. Compared to yabukita its taste is less harsh and calmer. It has an elegant flavor and is well suited to being cultivated as kabusecha and gyokuro.
