Collection: KANAYAMIDORI

Yabukita is the cultivar that defines Japanese green tea today. It owes its origins to Hikosaburo Sugiyama from Shizuoka. In 1908, it is told, he realized that the zairai seedlings which grew on the north side (kita) of his bamboo grove (yabu) thrived especially well and so he started to cultivate them. In 1954 Yabukita became a registered cultivar. Yabukita accounts for 80% of the tea cultivated in Japan. Its popularity is attributed to a good balance of umami and adstringent flavors, as well as to an abundant harvest.
